After the smoothing, the intensity is stabilized around a certain level, leaving ony small variations in time. But with this feature, you can lock the intensity at that level suppressing these variations. This helps the subsequent MPEG compression resulting in smaller size of the compressed video.
This is similar to what the PicFix filter does (made by Gabest). But in SpotRemover, this is implemented more precisely.
The intensity is compared not to the previous frame but over a span of 5 frames, which is equivalent to a precision of 1/5 of intensity step in one frame. This results in no artifacts during a slow intensity change (like panning over the sky).
Again, the intensity and color components are processed independently with different settings.
